Prioritizing Safety: A Commitment to Students and Staff in GPISD Schools
As a candidate running for Grand Prairie ISD School Board District 6, I am committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and staff within our schools. Creating a safe learning environment is crucial to the success of our students and the overall health of our community.
To achieve this goal, we must prioritize several key measures:
Mental health support: Mental health issues can often go overlooked and undiagnosed in young students, and it is important that we provide appropriate support for students who may be struggling. This includes access to mental health professionals and resources for parents to help identify warning signs of mental health concerns.
Crisis management training: We must be prepared for any crisis situation that may arise in our schools. This includes training for staff members on how to handle emergency situations and ensuring that all schools have appropriate safety equipment on hand.
Campus security: Ensuring that our schools are safe and secure is a top priority. This includes having secure entrances and exits, campus-wide surveillance, and regular safety audits. Many in our community have asked that GPISD consider having one dedicated school resource officer on each campus.
Communication: Open and transparent communication is essential to creating a safe learning environment. Parents, students, and staff members must feel comfortable reporting safety concerns and have confidence that these concerns will be addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.
By prioritizing these measures, we can create a safe learning environment for all students and staff within Grand Prairie ISD schools. As a lifelong educator and advocate for public education, I am committed to ensuring that our schools are safe, welcoming, and supportive environments where every student can thrive. I am dedicated to working collaboratively with parents, teachers, and community members to achieve this goal and make Grand Prairie ISD a model of safety and success in education.
